| A poet's work is to name the unnameable, to point at frauds, to take sides, start arguments, shape the world, and stop it going to sleep. - Salman Rushdie | ||
| Who is your favorite poet and why? What are some of your favorite poems by that poet? If you don't have a favorite poet or haven't read much poetry, then write about your favorite band or artist. What are some lyrics they have written that you liked? Why? If you can include a specific poem or lyrics, then that's great! REMEMBER: Your response must be a fully-developed, 5-sentence paragraph. Below is an example response. This is a tough question for me. There are so many poets I love: Pablo Neruda, Emily Dickinson, Mary Oliver, Billy Collins... the list goes on and on. I think my absolute favorite all-time poet, if I have to pick, is William Carlos Williams. He is known for his short poems, which he wrote on prescription pads when he was a doctor. Though many of his poems are short, they contain touching and true reflections of the human condition. He also wrote many poems which were musings about artwork. I especially love the poem called "Landscape with the Fall of Icarus" about a Brueghel painting because it emphasizes the everyday world not as backdrop, but as even more important than the fall of a hero: According to Brueghel when Icarus fell it was spring a farmer was ploughing his field the whole pageantry of the year was awake tingling with itself sweating in the sun that melted the wings' wax unsignificantly off the coast there was a splash quite unnoticed this was Icarus drowning | ||

He tries to make his songs funny.
He wants to show his feelings in his songs.
I like "Watching You" because it it is funny and it talks about God. Another song i like is "Farmers Daughter" because he sees a cute girl on the farm. I like to work on the farm too. Rodney Atkins is the best country singer.

My favorite poet is dr. seuss. His poems have the most rythem and ryme. As a child that is all I would read. He is very funny and amusing. He made so many books and poems so you never run out. Therefor you are always entertained. I think he is the most known and liked poet in the u.s.a.
ReplyDeleteSince i do not get the time to read much poetry, i am choosing to write about a certain band that i find there lyrics tend to be very inspiration. The band I am referring to is nickelback. some of there songs are inappropriate or are not rhythmical. but some of there more popular songs give advice and sing the lyrics like a poem or story. - evan
ReplyDeleteI do not read a lot of poetry, so I chose a band. Lonely Island is my favorite band. Some of their songs are very profane. However, their music videos are like a small movie. I admire their song lyrics.

ReplyDeleteI agree Evan Nickleback does have some very inspiring songs.
ReplyDeleteI have two favorite poets Dr. Seuss and Rudyard Kipling. One of the poems I like is If by Rudyard Kipling. I like it because it tells you how to be a true good man it even says it at the end of the poem. One of the poems I like by Dr. Seuss is Green Eggs and Ham.I like this one because I used to always read it when I was little and it reminds me of how I used to read a story or poem every night with my dad.
My favorite poet is Shel Silverstien. He has inspired me with such poems as: The girl who ate a whale, Falling up, and The giving tree. The giving tree is my favorite poem of his. The giving tree is a very sad story. It is about a tree who loves a boy. The boy plays on her branches and eats her fruits. But then he grows up and cuts her down to make a boat.
