A Letter to those in Power (Due Friday, January 27th!)

One characteristic of a dystopian society is that the government is oppressive and all-controlling.  In each of the novels you are reading, society follows very different rules.  This week, your task is to write a letter to the government convincing them to change their ways.

If you are reading The Hunger Games, you must write to the Capitol and plea with them to end the Games and their brutal suppression of the Districts.  Try to appeal to their emotions, their intellect, or their sense of justice.

If you are reading Divergent, you must write to the leaders of Erudite and Abnegation and ask them to change the separation of the factions.  Try to appeal to their emotions, their intellect, or their sense of justice.

If you are reading The Maze Runner, you should send a letter to those outside of the Maze and explain the injustice of it.  Try to appeal to their emotions, their intellect, or their sense of justice.

  1. Dear Abnegation, and Etruide I think that this form of government is twisted and wrong. People should be able to chose what ever job they want, and should not be confined to five fractions. This is an injustice the rest of the world does not have to endour. I will be forced to insite a rebellion if you do not meet our needs. The operation of the people is over!

  2. Dear Government,

People will like you a lot more if you do something else other than the hunger game. People do not like the hunger games because they love their children so much. So the criminals that are getting life sentences could do it since they're already going to die. Then once they win, they just go to prison. Then if the winner lives to be 130 years old they will be able to get out.

  3. This is a letter to all those who live outside the glade:
Please help we don’t know why or how we got into this maze and we desperately need help. we think that people have imprisoned us are trying to kill us with revers and have some sort of clue hidden in the maze. Slowly one by one we are being slaughtered and that is not made up clunk. We can’t remember our past before the glade and are wondering if this is some sort of sick joke or a puzzle.
    Please send help!

  5. Dear Capitol,
The hunger games are terable. The parints of the kids love them so much and they don't want them to die. people should have freedom to do what ever they want to do and not kill each other. It is not right for people to fight one one another.
The districs need help to live. They need food and water, skills for the people that are fightting to end the hunger games.

  6. To the Capitol,
What you are doing is wrong, these Hunger Games are no way so show your dominance over the districts. This is not the middle ages, you do not kill anyone just because the, so called president says so. I don't think he should be called a president, more like an insane murderer. And just the fact that the games are meant to remind them how the Capitol destroyed District 13 is just as wrong. Give the districts free roam, if someone wants to find a place in the forest and live there so be it, but don't put an electric fence and land mines like you have. In all this is a stupid way to run this country you call Panem, because if a single act in the Games triggers an uprising then you are doing everything wrong.

  7. Erudite and Abnegation,
We should not separate ourselves into factions. It is ridiculous. What if you want to be all of those? I want to be selfless, kind, brave, smart, and honest. If you want to be in Amity, you apparently have to be stupid, a coward, selfish, and a liar.

  8. To the capital,
The Hunger Games are stupid, this is not a good way to show power over the districts. It's silly, you should not be able to go and say, "We rule you fools and you will go to an arena and fights to the death, even if your 12." You should not remind the districts of something that you should not have done in the first place. Destroying district 13 was just childish and cowardly. Finally, during the games, you should not be able to make artificial fires to kill people.

  9. Dear Capitol,
The Hunger games is brutal and wrong. Killing people is not a good way to remind people of your power over the districts. If you want to stop another uprising treat people better let them live in the woods where there is more food to feed their families with or at least get some designated hunters and gatherers to get food for the people in the districts. Also just in case there is an uprising get a better army to stop uprisings before they get big. All in all the way you lead is wrong, sloppy, and cowardly and you really have to get a grip on the way you lead your country Panem.
